Alright, so we’re totally
stealing borrowing this idea from Nathan Bransford, but Kati and I decided it would be fun to do a quick monthly wrap-up highlighting what we’ve blogged about here at Mystic Cooking this past month, as well as some other fun blog posts that caught our eye. So, without further ado, here goes:
Near the beginning of the month we discussed love triangles, weighing in on that greatest of all debates – are they swoon-worthy or groan-worthy? Moonstonemaiden and Elizabeth MacAndrew both delved into this topic some more on their blogs as well, and Brian Taylor joined in with a post about the meaning of love.
Later, Kati and I were turned into a doodle by the fabulously talented Jae from Lit and Scribbles. It is now prominently displayed on our about us page. 🙂 Kati started off our new “things i love” category, and then discussed the emptiness she felt inside when she decided not to do NaNoWriMo this year. Other sources of emptiness? Being let down by a potentially awesome book. But on the happy side, we got to see a wax rabbit, so all was once again right with the world.
And then we were onto our Thanksgiving, which was fun, but a little tricky since I’m now a vegetarian, and Kati can’t eat gluten…or tomatoes…or really anything. Pretty much she’s down to eating nothing but “the souls of kittens and the dreams of impoverished children.” [John Green, “Paper Towns”].
And speaking of John Green, we reviewed “The Fault in Our Stars” (spoiler – it’s good; you should definitely read it), as well as “Pandemonium” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Now we’re figuring out what to read next; it’s hard when there are so many great reviews out there for amazing-sounding books, like this one or this one, not to mention great reviews with authors about their books. Plus we have a whole pile of books to look forward to in 2013, thanks to bloggers like Picture Me Reading and The Hopeful Heroine.
Funny you should mention upcoming reads, because we got to hear about “the next big thing” from Brian Taylor, who wrote a great post about his WIP, “The Key to Eden,” and tagged us to do a follow-up for “the next big thing” blog hop. Here’s what we came up with. You should also check out Jae’s post about her WIP, “Shade,” Moonstonemaiden’s “Believe,” and Miss Alexandrina’s “When the Clock Broke,” for more great upcoming books – I’m looking forward to the day we see all of those on the shelves.
In other news, we put up a short blurb from Mystic Cooking introducing you all to our villain. Mostly we needed a distraction – Kati and I recently entered Pitch Wars…our subs are in and we’re just cooling our heels, waiting to hear the results. And if you haven’t entered yet, hurry, there’s still time! The contest closes on December 5th.
Also we’re now both on twitter. Look us up:
That’s about it. Congratulations to all of you NaNoWriMo winners out there, and welcome to December!
